چکیده

Partially deuterated Ca3Al2(SiO4)y(OH)12 4y–Al(OH)3 mixtures, prepared by hydration of Ca3Al2O6 (C3A), Ca12Al14O33 (C12A7) and CaAl2O4 (CA) phases in the presence of silica fume, have been characterized by Si and Al magic-angle spinning–nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS–NMR) spectroscopies. NMR spectroscopy was used to characterize anhydrous and fully hydrated samples. In hydrated compounds, Ca3Al2(OH)12 and Al(OH)3 phases were detected. From the quantitative analysis of Al NMR signals, the Al(OH)3/Ca3Al2(OH)12 ratio was deduced. The incorporation of Si into the katoite structure, Ca3Al2(SiO4)3 x(OH)4x, was followed by Al and Si NMR spectroscopies. Si/OH ratios were determined from the quantitative analysis of Al MAS–NMR components associated with Al(OH)6 and Al(OSi)(OH)5 environments. The Si NMR spectroscopy was also used to quantify the unreacted silica and amorphous calcium aluminosilicate hydrates formed, C–S–H and C–A–S–H for short. From Si NMR spectra, the amount of Si incorporated into different phases was estimated. Si and Al concentrations, deduced by NMR, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectrometry, and Rietveld analysis of both X-ray and neutron data, indicate that only a part of available Si is incorporated in katoite structures. & 2008 Elsevier Inc. The Hydration Products of a Refractory Calcium Aluminate Cement at Low Temperatures

Calcium aluminates (CA) are the most important hydraulically setting cements used for preparing refractory castables, because they develop high strength at very early ages after placements.  The anhydrous phases of this kind of cements are CA, CA2 and traces of C12A7 and alpha-alumina. The major hydraulic phase in all of the CA cements including ciment fondu...

Influential Mechanisms and Potential Applications of Nano-Silicas in Cement Composites

Nanosilicas have been known as super-pozzolanic materials and compared to silica fume, these materials have higher purity of silica and finer particles. However, in contrast to silica fume, nanosilicas are produced by various methods, leading to different morphologies and agglomeration statuses in their initial form. On the other hand, due to several mechanisms such as the bridging effect of ca...

Low Temperature Synthesis of Belite Cement Based on Silica Fume and Lime

This paper describes the low temperature synthesis of belite (β-C2S) from silica fume. Mixtures of lime, BaCl2, and silica fume with the ratio of (Ca + Ba)/Si = 2 were hydrothermally treated in stainless steel capsule at 110-150°C for 2-5 hours, calcined at 600-700°C for 3 hours, and analyzed by FTIR, XRD, TGA/DTA, and SEM techniques. Dicalcium silicate hydrate (hillebrandite) was prepared by h...

Thermodynamical and Experimental Study of the Effects of Ball Clay-Silica Fume Combination on the Hydration and Strength

The production of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) as the most expensive constituent of concrete is associated with destructive environmental effects and significant energy consumption. Thus, the use of supplementary cementitious materials such as Natural or synthetic pozzolans is a fundamental solution that affects the kinetics of hydration of cementitious materials. In this article, to evaluate...
